With more than a decade of experience in real estate sales, an 18-year corporate career in Building Automation and Energy Management, and firsthand experience owning and selling businesses, Ken Mackey is serving business owners and buyers throughout Maricopa and Yavapai Counties in Arizona. His combination of business ownership, real estate, construction, and corporate leadership experience gives him a practical perspective on the opportunities and challenges that come with buying or selling a business.
Ken’s professional background is deeply rooted in the construction and building systems industries. Growing up with a father who spent more than 32 years as a general contractor, he gained early exposure to multiple trades and developed particular interests in HVAC, electrical work, and building automation. He went on to spend 18 years in the Building Automation and Energy Management industry, developing leadership, problem-solving, and client service skills while gaining valuable insight into the operational side of businesses.
In 2014, Ken transitioned into real estate, where his approach centered on educating clients and helping them make informed decisions during significant financial transactions. Over the course of his career, he has also experienced the business sale process personally. Ken sold his real estate brokerage in 2019 and an investment company in 2025, giving him firsthand insight into the decisions and considerations an owner faces when preparing to exit a business.
Ken’s areas of expertise include construction, building automation and energy management, real estate, and property management. His professional credentials include an Arizona Real Estate Broker’s License, General Contracting License, and HVAC Contractor’s License, as well as multiple management certifications earned within the construction industry. He is also active with NAR, AAR, and WeSERV in Arizona.
Having sat on the owner’s side of a business sale himself, Ken understands the importance of approaching a transaction with preparation, discretion, clear communication, and a focus on the owner’s goals. He believes in putting clients first and providing honest, straightforward guidance throughout the process. Drawing on his executive leadership background, Ken brings strategic thinking, negotiation experience, and a steady approach to complex situations, with the goal of building relationships that continue well beyond the closing of a transaction.
Outside of his professional life, Ken enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is also active in supporting his local school district and is proud to call Arizona home.
