Out of the Woods and into Retirement!

Justin W Sandridge, CBI, SM&AP

Tracy and John contacted me in 2021 to explore the possibility of selling their business.  John and Tracy started A-AAA Tree Service in 2000 with no experience in the industry.  After more than 20 years of owning a successful company, they decided to sell and reap the benefits of years of hard work.

We listed the business for sale in August 2021 and in August 2022 we closed on the sale.  Tracy and John stayed the course and followed my advice on how to best position the business for sale.

Selling any business is tough, and to be honest, it is not an enjoyable experience – this deal was no exception.  Tracy and I spoke daily as new challenges came up.  We problem solved and came up with solutions to work through roadblocks and get to the closing table.

As a broker finding a buyer for a good business is easy. Keeping the buyer and seller in the game and solving challenges as they get closer to closing is the tough part.

When choosing a business broker, make sure your broker does not just “find you a buyer”, but manages the due diligence process and keeps everyone moving forward.
